 The Salvation Army provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation to those who cannot afford private health care. There are hundreds of people living on the streets who are addicted to drugs, alcohol and both and who need rehabilitations before it is too late. Each year, hundreds of people die from overdosing or prolonged usage of drugs or alcohol and with the growing help of Salvation Army, we can start to reduce these numbers. The only requirement to be accepted by the Salvation Army drug and alcohol rehab centre is that you sign in sober and under your own free will. Not only do they provide rehabilitation services and a place to eat and sleep, they also provide work programs where they help you find a work place so you can not only improve your sense of responsibility, but you can also get some solid work experience so when you are ready to leave the centre.
Homelessness is quite often tied to drug and alcohol abuse and as previously mentioned, many deaths occur each year because people could not find the help they needed in order to kick their drug and alcohol habits away. However, with the Salvation Army’s rehab centers, hopefully these deaths can start to decrease. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has published studies showing that these rehab centers are helping and with the continued support of local governments, this success can hopefully continue.
